Every Mooncake festival, I will hear a statement which will be repeated to me without fail; my aunts love telling me that when I was still a small quiet little girl, I used to hold on to a whole mooncake and munch it down all by myself. I suppose my aunts find that moment very fascinating to remember. I don't quite remember but I do look forward to mooncakes every year, especially the one with the salted egg yolk! It's like the cherry on top of the cake for me.

However, over the years, I gradually feel that the taste and the ingredient is differing from what it used to be, leading to a little bit of disappointment. This year, I found something which revived my much love for mooncake and also open up to the variety different flavours of mooncake.


I have to say that BMS Organics have definitely up the game this year with the launching of their new Cantonese & Suzhou Style Mooncake Selection which consist of the following flavours;

This new compilation recipe was created with much love by a veteran professional baker from Taiwan, ensuring only the finest and freshest ingredients used to bake the mooncakes. They put so much focus on creating only the best, they decide to use only unbleached flour and all-natural ingredients which are specially sourced from Taiwan. 

BMS Organics have taken a leap from the old school commercial mooncakes which are usually encumbered with the taste of oily and overly-sweet mooncakes. Now, we don't have to feed on so much guilt after munching down a whole less healthy mooncake, do we?

Japanese Tangerine (Vegan) - Stimulate your taste buds with this brand new offering from BMS Organics, which uses a whole Yilan tangerine in place of the traditional egg yolk, providing an extra zing. The honey-soaked lime blends perfectly with BMS Organics’ very own Japanese-styled red bean paste. 

Ingredients: Red bean paste (red bean, red kidney bean, isomalt, soya bean oil), tangerine, unbleached plain flour(organic) and peanut oil.

Red Bean Walnut (Vegan) - We place great emphasis on the authenticity, freshness and flavors of each vegan mooncake. The crust is baked with natural red yeast rice, a sight to behold and every bite comes with chunky red bean bits and crunchy walnuts. Simple yet delectable! 

Ingredients: Red bean paste (red bean, red kidney bean, isomalt, soya bean oil), unbleached plain flour(organic) , walnut, peanut oil, beetroot and natural red yeast rice.

Mixed Nuts Delight (Vegan) - A healthier version of traditional mooncake. The nutritional values are multiplied when traditionally nuts are replaced with super foods such as white sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, tangerine, walnuts and almonds, which promote digestive, respiratory health & overall wellbeing.

Ingredients: Mixed nuts (white bean, isomalt, soya bean oil, white sesame, almond, pumpkin seed, walnut, dried tangerine, rock salt), unbleached plain flour(organic) and peanut oil.

Purple Chinese Yam (Vegan) - The lovely purple Chinese yam filling is not only pleasing to the eye but also high in nutrients. Feel the taste of subtle sweetness, silky texture and the unique aroma of the purple yam in your mouth, a taste that will leave you wanting for more. 

Ingredients: Purple Chinese yam paste (purple Chinese yam, white bean, isomalt, soya bean oil), unbleached plain flour(organic) , peanut oil and taro.

After tasting all 8 creations, I have to say I feel eager to purchase them right away! Mooncake festival might be sometime away, but I definitely don't mind getting them for my own indulgence! The sweetness has been adjusted to a more favourable level, making it tastier without losing its flavours. It is not a new trend that new flavours has been introduced for mooncakes but I am impressed this time around with the replacement of salted egg yolk with a whole Yilan Tangerine for the Japanese Tangerine Mooncake.

For small bites, I'd recommend to try the Red Bean with Tangerine Pastry (Ovo-Lacto Vegetarian) which also has the little tangerine in there. A new taste but I'm felling head over heels for it! <3

My other favourite is the Mixed Nuts Delight Mooncake (Vegan). All these while I never liked mooncake with mix nuts. I think it it probably the choice of nuts choosen for mixed nuts mooncakes but I find myself keep feeding on this Mixed Nuts Delight Mooncake (Vegan) one after another. Definitely recommending this for you to try out!

Matcha Red Bean (Vegan) - Baked at low temperature, the mooncake comes with a natural shade of green that indicates the goodness within. Handpicked red beans from Wandan, Taiwan, are enveloped in a warm fragrant paste made of natural matcha powder, making this an unforgettable treat.

Ingredients: Matcha paste (white bean, isomalt, soya bean oil, matcha powder), red bean paste (red bean, red kidney bean, isomalt, soya bean oil), unbleached plain flour(organic) and peanut oil.

Pure Lotus With Yolk (Ovo-Vegetarian) - An awesome combo of savoury egg yolk and BMS Organics’ own unique paste made from premium lotus seeds, this healthy version of the traditional mooncake contains less fat and sugar, but it certainly does not compromise the silky-smooth texture that we’ve all come to love.

Ingredients: Lotus paste (white bean, lotus seed, isomalt, soya bean oil), unbleached plain flour(organic) , salted egg yolk and peanut oil.

So many delicious variety to choose from, which one would you pick? Well, no matter which, it would be wise to get them quick because I was told that BMS Organics Mooncakes get sold out every year without fail! You won't want to wait till next year to feed your cravings!
